Bishop David Walker is celebrating the Year of Grace with a personal milestone – giving thanks for the grace of 50 years of priestly ordination.

Bishop David’s Golden Jubilee celebrations took place at the end of July to mark 50 years since he was ordained for the priesthood by Cardinal Norman Gilroy on July 21, 1962.

Bishop David was joined by the Papal Nuncio - His Excellency Guiseppe Lazzarotto; fellow Bishops Kevin Manning, Michael Malone and Bernard O’Grady; priests; family; friends; and people from across the Diocese of Broken Bay for a celebratory Mass and gathering.

Preparing for the Permanent Diaconate is often compared to being on a journey, but diaconal candidate Peter McCulloch took that analogy to new heights recently when he and his family embarked on a 780km walking pilgrimage through France and Spain along the Camino de Santiago de Compostela.

Peter, who is a long-time parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary, Waitara (Hornsby Parish), was accepted into the diaconal program in the Diocese of Broken Bay in 2009 and, following the required theological studies and other preparation, is looking forward to his ordination.
