Production is about to commence on the Australian independent film, A Priest in the Family. Based on a short story by Irish author Colm Toibin, A Priest in the Family deals with the struggles and sadness that overcomes some people when confronted with child sexual abuse. The Diocese of Broken Bay is supporting the film.

In every case of clerical sexual abuse, as well as the primary victim and their family there are many ‘secondary’ victims. A Priest in the Family focuses on just one area of this mostly hidden damage: the accused priest’s family, particularly the relationship between a mother and her priest son.

Firefighters have managed to save the Barrenjoey Lighthouse from one of many bushfires that flared up during hot and windy weather conditions across the State over the weekend of 28-29 September.

A blaze initially broke out across the Barrenjoey Headland with billowing black smoke visible from the adjacent Palm Beach. An emergency alert was initially issued and headland visitors were advised to seek shelter near the lighthouse after access to a walking trail was cut off.

As World Mission Month commences in October, Bishop Wenceslao Padilla CICM, Bishop of Mongolia, visited Broken Bay Diocese recently with Mr Martin Teulan, CEO Catholic Mission to launch this year’s project focus “I will build my Church.”

This year’s Catholic Mission World Mission Month appeal will focus on the world’s youngest Catholic Church which was established in Mongolia just over twenty years ago following the fall of communism.
