A Jubilee is a great event, and Pope Francis has called upon the world to celebrate a Jubilee Year dedicated to Mercy to draw our attention to becoming more merciful in our own lives and to bring God’s mercy to others in reconciliation, hope and justice.

At the start of a special Jubilee Year in the Catholic Church, once every 25 years, a special Holy Door at St Peter’s Basilica in Rome is opened by the Pope.

The Apostolic Nuncio, His Excellency Archbishop Adolfo Tito Yllana, made his first official visit to the Diocese of Broken Bay on Sunday 29 November. Archbishop Yllana celebrated Mass with the Filipino community of Broken Bay at Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral, with Bishop Peter Comensoli and clergy from Broken Bay and visiting priests. The same night he celebrated Mass with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community at Corpus Christi, St Ives.

The next Australian Catholic Youth Festival (ACYF), to be hosted in Sydney in December 2017, will launch a national Year of Youth.

The Australian Catholic Bishops recently approved a proposal from the Australian Catholic Youth Council to host a national Year of Youth in 2018. The Year of Youth in 2018 will celebrate ten years since Australia hosted World Youth Day in 2008.

On 1 December, the Religious of the Diocese of Broken Bay came together to celebrate the end of the Year of Consecrated LIfe with Bishop Peter Comensoli at Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral, Waitara.
It was an opportunity for Bishop Peter to thank the Religious men and women in the Diocese of Broken Bay.

The theme was, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. To educate the children and provide them something that was tangible to understand, we had five challenges over six weeks.
