The Coat-of-Arms combines the arms of the Diocese of Broken Bay with the arms assumed by Bishop David Walker. These are displayed side by side in the procedure known as impalement, with the Diocesan arms on the ‘dexter’ side of the shield.
The Diocesan arms symbolically depict the lighthouse on Barrenjoey Peninsula which shines out across the waters of Broken Bay, a central location within the boundaries of the Diocese. The white lighthouse, emitting a yellow glow, is placed on a navy background with a red Chi Rho symbol inscribed in the lower portion.
This symbol is a monogram for Christ. The Greek letter Chi and Rho (depicted as the English capital letters X and P) represent the first three letters of Christos. The Diocesan motto, Lumen Christi, Light of Christ, connects both the literal reaching out of the lighthouse rays across the Diocese with the evangelisation of Christ's message to his people.
Bishop Walker's arms have been taken from his maternal side and bear the Lynch family crest. A gold chevron is placed on blue between three gold, three-leafed clovers, signifying the Irish ancestry of the Lynch family.
The motto Semper Fideles, Always Faithful, encloses the Episcopal Coat-of-Arms.
