17 October - Holy Cross historic Church Kincumber
Holy Cross Parish is honouring the special relationship between Mary MacKillop, the Sisters of St Joseph, and the Holy Cross Church and Parish with a 10-hour Vigil. The Vigil is to be staged at Holy Cross Church, South Kincumber, from 7.00am Sunday 17 October until the commencement of a special 5.00pm Evening Mass in the historic Church. The Vigil is to enable the Faithful to give thanks to God for our first Australian Saint; to reflect on her life and work; and to pray for their own special intentions – in the same church where Mother Mary MacKillop prayed with and for our parishioners, the boys in the Orphanage and the Sisters of St Joseph.
Holy Cross Church at South Kincumber occupies a special place in the history and spirituality of Christianity on the Central Coast because it was the original Catholic Church and the centre of the Brisbane Waters Mission. Holy Cross Church was to become the holy place in which Mother Mary MacKillop slept, prayed and received Holy Communion during her six visits to the adjoining St Joseph’s Orphanage.
