Broken Bay Diocesan Synod

A Diocesan Synod is an opportunity for the people of the Diocese of Broken Bay to come together to lay the foundations for the future direction of the Diocese. It’s an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments that have been achieved under the direction of our pastoral plans, and to recognise the giftedness and the diversity of our people.

As we celebrate 25 years as a Diocese, Bishop David Walker has called a Synod for the Diocese of Broken Bay with a focus on:

Celebrating the past
Engaging with the present
Envisioning the future

The Synod's First Major Gathering was held in June 2011 and will conclude with the Second Gathering in May 2012. In the next year there will be more consultation, including discussion and feedback from a wide cross section of the community of the faithful as together we look to shape the way that our Diocese and parishes can best support the people of the Diocese in living their call to holiness. First Synod Gathering

The First Synod Gathering was held on 3-4 June 2011 at Pennant Hills. Over 130 people participated in the Synod Gathering, including two delegates from each parish, Clergy, School Principals, Diocesan staff, representatives from Diocesan organisations and congregational leaders.

Spreading the Christmas cheer at Hornsby Parish

The St Vincent de Paul Society at Hornsby Parish are good at spreading Christmas cheer, and it seems to be spreading even wider. Each year the group organises Christmas hampers for needy families, with over 110 hampers delivered last year.

Dinner for Eight at the Lakes Parish

When you eat together you can’t help but be friends! The Lakes Parish thought about this more than 20 years ago, when we decided to start up “Dinner for Eight” in our parish.

Ecumenical outreach at Epping and Carlingford

The Parish of Epping and Carlingford have a wonderful relationship with other churches in the local area, and in fact have a signed covenant. The covenant gives a formal expression to many of the joint activities that are shared by the churches and a commitment to continue these activities.

St Ives Parish – Family Groups help build community

Family groups were established in the Corpus Christi St Ives parish more than 20 years ago. There are ten Family Groups made up of eight to ten families each, all with varying ages. Anyone is welcome to join, including single people.

Mary Mac’s Place Woy Woy – enriching the local community

Mary Mac’s Place began in 1993 as a project of the parish of Woy Woy on top of the St Vincent de Paul building in a domestic kitchen, providing lunch for 12 people in need. Since then it has grown and now caters for anywhere between 80-120 people daily for lunch from Monday – Friday.
