Hospital Chaplaincy
Hospital Chaplaincy is considered a significant ministry in the Diocese. Care is provided for two large hospitals (Gosford and Royal North Shore) and a number of smaller hospitals and nursing and hostel facilities.
A full-time hospital chaplain is available at the Royal North Shore, but in general, parish priests operate on a roster and are available for hospital calls.
Pastoral workers and volunteers also minister in all hospitals, nursing and hostel facilities throughout the diocese.
Under the new Privacy Laws, it is important for Catholic patients to mark 'Catholic' in the religion box when completing the hospital admission forms. This notifies hospital authorities that they would like to have a pastoral visit from a Priest or a Pastoral Carer.
