What is Adult Faith Formation?

Adult faith formation is the process where we consciously grow in the life of Christ through experience, reflection, prayer and study.

Adult Faith Formation enlivens the faith of the baptised and assists in engendering a deeper relationship with Christ and the Christian community, thereby witnessing to a spirit of evangelisation and Christian service in the world.

A Lifelong Process

We have a right and duty to bring to maturity the seed of faith sown in us by God. Our faith is pure grace, and we are called to respond by nurturing the gift. To develop a mature faith, we need to engage, meaningfully and consciously, in adult faith formation.
In order to survive, we grow, learn, and adapt in all manner of ways. Our faith life is no different. Faith development is a life-long process. Can we afford to rely on the catechesis we received as children to carry us through life, with all its twists and turns?

Who are the Adult Faith Formation Personnel?

In short, everyone. Practically everything we do as Christians is designed to deepen our relationship with God and the Christian community. Bishops, priests, deacons, religious, the laity - we are all called and sent to make manifest the incarnate Christ in our world. We are to be Christ for one another. As witnesses to the faith, we help evangelise and form the faith of others.
Adult faith formation is a wide area of concern encompassing knowledge of the faith, liturgical life, moral formation, prayer, communal life, and missionary spirit. Many parishes have Adult Faith Formation teams that promote local formation opportunities. The Catholic Life & Faith Formation team of the Diocese also provides regular faith development opportunities.
