At the beginning of 2005 the craft group was formed under the heading “Learning, Sharing and Enriching”. At that time a few ladies felt there could be a need for this kind of ‘get together” in our parish. We invited all who were interested in learning one of many crafts, so that we could share the knowledge and experience that we have as volunteer demonstrators/coordinators, and thereby enriching all of our lives as we come together every Friday. Many of the ladies who have joined our group are also enthusiastically passing on their expertise in different kinds of craft in which we are not skilled. We are thankful as we all learn and share in friendship and support.
We have welcomed not only parishioners but ladies of our broader community, all ages, who have joined this very happy, productive, friendly group. This is what we had hoped for.
The most popular crafts at the moment are crocheting, knitting, sewing techniques [machine], patchwork and appliqué, embroidery stitches, and many more. We would welcome anyone who has special talents in any new craft who would care to join our group. Some ladies are just happy to come along for the friendship and to finish off their “collections” of UFO’s [unfinished objects]. Others offer great support knitting for the Wrap with Love programme, and this year we are also making some items to support fundraising for the CWL’s School Scholarship luncheon/market day to be held in August.
In 2005 we designed and made the curtain for the Parish Hall kitchen door in machine embroidery, appliqué and many, many stitches depicting the Parable of the Loaves and Fishes. In 2006 we completed the new altar cloth symbolising Christ’s suffering and his gift of life for us.
If you or your friends would care to join our group, we meet every Friday at 10am until 12.30pm in our lovely Parish Hall – cool in the hot months and warm in winter. How blessed and thankful we are!
