Parish Neighbourhoods
The Parish Neighbourhoods are 12 geographical areas into which we have divided the parish in order to foster the growth of Christian community within the parish. Each Neighbourhood has a "Neighbourhood Leadership Team", of about 4 people, who facilitate communication within the Neighbourhood and work to help the Neighbourhood be a place of community pastoral care, welcome and outreach. The Neighbourhood Leadership Team also ensures that new members to the parish are welcomed to the Neighbourhood.

Please become involved in all your Neighbourhood activities - these gatherings help to forge our bonds as a parish community.

We hope the Neighbourhoods are communities within the overall community of the parish aiming to:

  • build and strengthen the bonds of the parish
  • help us to know one another as fellow members of the Catholic Christian community
  • be communities of service
  • be communities of life
  • be communities of prayer
  • be communities of welcome

The parish Neighbourhoods are perhaps the most important dimension of our life as a Christian community. Because it is there that we live. It is there that are (or are not) a community. It is there that we live out the Lord's call to serve and to love one another. Please support your Neighbourhood community with all your heart.

Some neighbourhood activities we hope everyone will participate in:

  • Lenten prayer/discussion groups
  • the home Mass, celebrated once each year
  • the Advent paraliturgy, sometime in December
  • join with other members of your neighbourhood to serve morning tea after Sunday Mass on your neighbourhood's rostered day

To contact your neighbourhood leadership team, please contact the Parish Office.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
A large group of lay ministers of the Eucharist bring Holy Communion each week to the sick in Hornsby Hospital, the various nursing homes and to private homes. If you or someone you know, either through sickness or age, is unable to come to Mass either permanently or for a prolonged period of time, please inform the Parish Office and we will arrange for Holy Communion to be brought each week.

People wishing to join this ministry are provided with appropriate training both through the diocese and the parish.

During Mass Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion also help to distribute Holy Communion and may also serve as Altar servers.

Family Groups
In early 1999, we introduced Family Groups to the Parish. The Family Group Movement has been active in Australia for many years and basically consists of forming groups within the Parish for the building of community. Each group would meet regularly, at least once a month, usually for some social gathering. The groups ultimately would also provide mutual support in times of need. Not only families can belong to "Family Groups". Each group consists of married and single people, young and old, children and adults. In our Parish, we have linked the Family Groups with our Neighbourhoods. Since the Neighbourhoods are our basic unit of community, each of the Family Groups draw members from several adjacent Neighbourhoods so that the members of each Family Group also have a relationship in terms of Neighbourhood.

If you would like to be included in a Family Group, please contact the Parish Office
and this will be arranged through our overall coordinator of the Family Groups within the Parish.
