Mathematics involves the development of students’ thinking, understanding, competence and confidence in the application of mathematics. The five broad strands of Mathematics are:
- Working Mathematically
- Number
- Patterns and Algebra
- Measurement and Data
- Space and Geometry
Values and attitudes operate across all strands and are not attached to special outcomes. Mathematics is a creative activity. When the children are involved in Mathematics at Holy Family you will see the children on the floor or at their desks sorting, counting, patterning, trading, recording, measuring and investigating using a wide range of mathematical concrete materials. In addition technology, including computers and calculators, are used to assist pupils.
