Maria Regina Catholic Primary School affirms that, consistent with the Diocesan Mission statement, each Catholic School has a special responsibility for the pastoral care of students.
As a community all members are valued as creations of a loving God and need to be supported in their role in building community for the good of the students.
Maria Regina has adopted a whole school approach to bring about positive behaviour; Positive Behaviour for Learning [PBL]. This approach has a strong emphasis on teaching appropriate behaviours and providing systems of support to bring about these positive behaviours. This Policy recognises that staff, students and parents all share the responsibility for Behaviour Management, with a positive and pastoral outlook for all. PBL focuses on proactive strategies for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate student behaviours to create positive school environments. The aim of Positive Behaviour for Learning is to actively teach and reinforce desired behaviour while implementing consistent, reasonable, mostly positive intervention to address challenging behaviours. Preserving and building child’s self esteem and image as well as encouraging self monitoring of behaviour are vital components of the positive approach. Maria Regina Catholic School aims to provide a safe and supportive environment in which learning takes place.
Maria Regina has supportive and welcoming class parent representatives who support the school community by acting as a link between the classroom, teacher and parents. Their role within the school engages the community to promote pastoral care such as welcoming new families and fostering of new relationships between parents and students. Class Parent Coordinator oversees the various roles of our class parents.
Maria Regina students have access to a school counsellor if necessary and can also assist parents in acquiring suitable counselling for families through Centacare. Families affected by the Financial Crisis and who may have been struggling to meet school fee payments were offered flexibility in regards to account deadlines.
