Soccer
Each and every year, from April to August, over 60 students are involved with Football at Our Lady of Dolours. Football is open to everyone from kindergarten to Year 6. Students play with other children the same age and teams grouped by school rather than ability.
Our Lady of Dolours plays under Northbridge Football Club in the KDSA competition, with games played locally on a Saturday morning. Parental involvement is very important to fill the management and coaching roles for all teams.
Netball
Netball is offered every year at Our Lady of Dolours, and is open to any girl in Year 3 through to Year 6. There is an option for a Netta team (modified netball rules) comprising of Yr 2 (8yrs of age) or Yr 3 students.
Our Lady of Dolours Netball Club is part of the Mercy Catholic College (MCC) Activities Club and our netball teams participate in the Northern Suburbs Netball Association (NSNA) competition. Mercy College provides the Umpires on our behalf and if necessary, coaches for our Junior Teams.
7 players are essential to play a match and 9-10 players are required to form a viable team. Competition matches are Friday evenings (Netta to U10) and Saturday mornings (U11 and U12) during term from April to August at Willoughby Leisure Centre Netball Courts. Training takes place one afternoon per week from March through to the end of the season, and is held at the school grounds after school.
Parental involvement is encouraged for coaching and managerial roles for individual teams. Netta coaches/parents are encouraged to assist with basic umpiring at matches.
Our Lady of Dolours netball players have the option to graduate to coaching and umpire roles when they pursue this sport at Mercy College. Netball Umpires are paid though coaching is a voluntary position and seasoned players/students undertake this role for altruistic reasons or as part of their Duke of Edinburgh program.
Representative Sport
Each class has at least one Physical Education lesson each week. The children are involved in a program that progressively develops their skills in a variety of modified games. All children are allocated to a Sport Colour House for their time at Our Lady of Dolours.
Two sports carnivals are held annually – Swimming in the fourth term and Athletics in the second term. Our children are eligible to be selected for state level sport competition for the Diocese of Broken Bay Sport Council.
