This year, National Literacy and Numeracy Week took place during the first week of September. OLOR participated in a number of school wide activities in support of this week. The students took part in a ‘Target Toss’ where they collected data while tossing a coin/counter at a target on the floor. This data was entered into a national data base and was collated with data from many other schools across Australia.
With the Numeracy activity under way, the focus turned to Literacy. OLOR decided to hold a school wide Trivia Day. Every child from Kindergarten to Year 6 was placed in a ‘trivia group’ with each group consisting of at least one child from each grade. Teachers submitted questions based on the literature the grade had studied during the term. Each round of ten questions contained at least one question from each grade.
There was a lot of laughter and audible answers across the hall as the children demonstrated their knowledge of the literature studied.
