Chess Club is held in the Library at lunchtime twice a week. There is a Junior group from years K-2 and a Senior group from years 3-6. The school has a number of chess sets as well as interactive chess available on computers. Beginners are encouraged to attend and practice with more experienced students.
Each year an in-school competition is held and medals awarded to winners. A Team is usually selected to compete in the North Shore Primary Schools Chess Team Tournament.
Chess is an effective way to teach valuable problem-solving and analytical skills and to build confidence. It requires intense and consistent concentration and patience and encourages positive decision-making skills. Chess is also a great way to make new friends.
