This key learning area of study is informed by the Broken Bay K–12 Religious Education Curriculum.
Our Religious Education Curriculum identifies the Catholic school as a place where students are offered experiences of Catholic discipleship, and suggests ways that schools can promote those experiences in everyday school life. This syllabus describes the Aims, the Objectives and the expected Outcomes of classroom religious education in the diocese of Broken Bay. It also mandates the content and the progressive teaching and learning that takes place in classroom Religious Education from Kindergarten to the completion of school education.
The modules are resource packages developed from the syllabus. They contain the expected outcomes, and provide Biblical and Catechism references to support the teaching of the topic. As well, they provide theological and education background and suggest ways contemporary pedagogy can be incorporated into the teaching of Religious Education.
Two and a half hours each week is spent on Religious Education.
In a bid to heighten the relevance and excitement of WYD08, St Bernard’s decided to design and make their own personal WYD Cross and Icon. With the expertise of several parents and staff, a cross was designed and constructed. The dimensions of this beautiful addition to St Bernard’s school are rather significant. It is 360cm long and 180cm wide. In addition, Parish Priest, Fr Robert Borg, provided the school with a beautiful Marion Icon that is being passed from family to family each day for prayer and adoration in family homes.
The cross is particularly special as it has a photograph of every child in the school set in the centre; amongst the 223 student photographs is a lovely discreet image of Jesus “amongst the children”.
