Reaching out to friends you don’t know.

St Gerard’s Catholic Primary school in Carlingford reached out to fellow students hundreds of kilometres away in flood affected Tully, Queensland.

St Clare’s Parish School in Tully  suffered damage to their playground in the flooding that affected most of Queensland and Northern NSW in early 2011.

St Gerard’s teacher, Mrs Catherine Stevenson and the student led Social Justice Committee organised a mufti-day and teacher vs student activities to raise money. School parent Rebekah Palmer went online with the  Year Six students, to choose and purchase replacement sporting equipment that would benefit the children at St Clare’s.

St Gerard’s was able to purchase a Multi-Sport Kit that included 100 items plus an additional class set of skipping ropes. The school was assisted by RH Sports who provided the items at a discount and delivered the items to St Clare’s.

Principal of St Gerard’s Mrs Ann Milling said that the children really wanted to help in some way and were so pleased to have an opportunity to make a difference to the students at St Clare’s.
