Thank you for coming! Over eighty parents and some grandparents attended the School Blessing and Opening on Friday. We felt very proud of our school and the children were outstanding!
The children participated in reading, singing, liturgical dance, ushering, holding the flags, conducting guided tours, distributing ice blocks and they did this with great confidence. Likewise, all classes were fully engaged in the Liturgy and listened throughout the speeches. The nice thing is that the children enjoyed the ceremony.
What I felt particularly proud of, is that as a school we certainly acknowledged the Australian Government appropriately for the funding of the building project. However, we were also able to do this in a way which was true to what we stand for at St Gerard’s Catholic Parish School. The words of the Liturgy brought us back to the fact that;
“No one can lay any foundation other than the one that has been laid; that foundation is Jesus Christ” (1 Cor 3: 11)
Father Colin’s words challenged us to think beyond the bricks and mortar of our new learning spaces and to make a space in our own lives for a relationship with our God. This is the essence of a good Catholic education; one where the children are able to grow in their relationship with God and learn effectively how to live and contribute to their world in a positive way.
Thank you to all those who attended this special day for our school and a special thank you to all of the teachers and parents that made this day such a success.
