St Kevin’s School has been involved in the Peninsula Learning Community of Catholic Schools over the last few years. This is an exciting initiative taking place in the Northern Beaches peninsula, where a community of schools share resources such as staff and facilities to provide a wider range of subject choice to students, as well as exposing young people to new teaching styles and an alternative experience in another school, with other students. Particular focus has been applied to provision for gifted and talented students in maths, science, music and sport.
Each year, several Year 5 and 6 St Kevin’s students participate in a series of Maths challenges where they worked with children from several other schools along the peninsula. This is a wonderful experience for our students to work with like minded peers and be challenged in their learning. We are very proud of the way our students represent St Kevin’s School and how they participate in the challenge.
Our Year 6 children also take part in Diocesan Public Speaking and Debating competitions and are always a credit to the school with the maturity and good grace they show.
In 2009 and 2010, students in Years 3 and 4 worked alongside their peers in a Zoomatics science challenge, in association with Taronga Zoo. In 2011 this partnership continues with Taronga Zoo involving children in Years 1 and 2.
St Kevin's School Choir have enjoyed participating in the Marana Music Festival, performing with children from all of the Diocesan schools on the Peninsula in front of sell out crowds at Mater Maria each year.
