St Kevin’s School runs a “Transition to School” program in Term 4 for children entering Kindergarten the following year. Children and parents come to school for morning sessions over a few weeks in the term to become familiar with the school setting and some of the school activities. The children meet their Year 5/6 ‘buddies’ who will be their mentors/ support system in their first year at school. They also spend time with the current Kindergarten class and teacher, the Librarian, ESL and Learning Support teachers and our Community Liaison Officer. Parents also have the opportunity to meet other parents within the St Kevin’s School community. This program has proven very successful in allaying fears of both children and parents of beginning school and ensuring a smooth transition to ‘big school’.
We also have “Taste of Big School” days where pre-school children and their parents can attend school for a morning and participate in activities run primarily by the senior students. These activities involve arts and crafts, sports and games, English and maths activities, computers and more.
