The new classrooms have been designed to allow the sharing of important integrated student learning

The library is well equipped with a wide range of resources

The new playground equipment is well loved by the children of St Kevin's

St Kevin's School is a brand new building, completed in August 2008

Classrooms

Our school is brand new, having been constructed during 2008, and it is now one of the best designed and equipped primary schools on the Peninsula. The classrooms at St Kevin’s School have been designed to allow the sharing of important integrated student learning.

There are 7 classrooms including an extra large double room for our upper primary classes.  All classrooms have high ceilings to allow for plenty of air circulation and are warm in the winter and cool in the summer and are full of natural light.  The rooms are carpeted and have ceiling mounted fans and wall heaters.

Each room is equipped with the most up-to-date technology to enhance and support the teaching and learning.  All rooms have an Interactive Whiteboard (IWB) and data projector, as well as digital television set-top boxes and multiple internet connected computers.

Parents, caregivers and parishioners are invited to celebrate our classroom learning at the end of each term in the form of Open Classrooms.

Library

St Kevin’s School Library is a state-of-the-art facility including an interactive white board and a bank of networked computers.  There is a wide range of new resources to encourage even the most reluctant reader.

The library is open two days per week and library lessons are held once a week for an hour.  The library is also available for use throughout the rest of the week.  During library lessons students develop a love of literature, explore the wide world of the imagination and enrich and develop their research skills. As all of our children’s work is treasured, there are always colourful displays of children’s work up on the walls.

Book Week is celebrated each August with many associated activities including whole school shared readings, book week quizzes and trivia competitions, as well as dress up days and book parades.

Our wonderful librarian conducts Book Fairs each year offering excellent resources at very affordable prices.  These have proved to be very popular and are always eagerly anticipated and well attended by students and parents.

Playground

Our newly designed playground is greatly loved by the children of St Kevin’s and caters to all their needs.  It includes:

  • a large undercover play area which is well lit and allows children a place to play even on rainy days
  • an asphalted area which is great for soccer, cricket and all running games
  • 2 large astro-turfed play areas, one including newly installed adventure play equipment made up of slides, monkey bars, climbing rope, balance beam and more
  • a wood-chipped play area with sandstone blocks and large rocks, shaded by beautiful trees.

Hall

Students, staff and parents have access to the Parish Hall which is connected to St Kevin’s School.  The Parish Hall has recently been renovated and is used for full school assemblies, visiting performances, and community celebrations such as school performances, Year 6 Graduation, and school discos.

The Parish Hall is available for hire to individuals and community groups.

Drop off and pick up zone

Immediately in front of St Kevin’s School on Oaks Avenue there is a “No Parking” zone, which operates between 8.30 – 9.30am and 2.30 – 3.30pm.  This is our “Kiss and Drop Zone” where parents can drop their children off in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon. Children then enter through the student entrance.  This gate is locked between 9am and 3pm, so late arriving students must use the main school entrance, located a few metres west on Oaks Avenue.

At the end of the school day children are accompanied by a teacher to the “Kiss and Drop Zone” to await their parents.  Children who walk to and from school are accompanied by another teacher to cross safely at the traffic lights / pedestrian crossing located in front of the main school entrance.

Out of School Hours Care (OOSH)

The Northern Beaches Out of School Hours (OOSH) Care runs after school care and vacation care on site at St Kevin’s School.
