'Our senior students offer leadership and support through our buddy system and peer support programs'
A strong relationship is forged between the different classes in the school through the Peer Support program and the Kindergarten / Year 6 Buddy System. The peer support program is run for one term annually. Year 5/6 are trained for their leadership role and facilitate a half hour program once a week over a term. The peer support groups are made up of the Year 5/6 leader and the Year 6 Kindergarten buddy along with children from other grades. Group sizes are small (under 10) and promote confidence and friendship obvious in the sessions and on the playground. The Kindergarten and Year 6 buddies ensure a smooth transition from Pre School to Kindergarten. The Kindergarten children build a strong rapport with their buddies and they are teamed to share morning tea, walk to Mass, read together and participate in peer support groups and fun activities during book week.
