At St Kieran’s our social justice awareness program very much comes out of our mission statement; “As a loving and life-long learning community we are committed to excellence in education, pastoral care, growth in faith and the promotion of social justice.”
As part of the senior leadership program, the Mission team works with teachers to facilitate a number of projects. These are generally centred on Caritas in Term 1, a local charity in Term 2 and a mini-fete with a social justice focus in Term 3. Causes to benefit in the past are: The Hay Catholic School, Day of Difference Foundation, the Josephite Peruvian mission and Father Chris Riley’s YOTS.
The Mission Team attends a World Vision workshop each year and brings back to their peers an awareness of world social justice issues such as child labour.
We also have a Mini-Vinnies team drawn from volunteers in Year 5 as part of this ministry. They visit the local nursing home at lunchtimes; help with the Winter Appeal collection and Christmas Hamper appeals in co-operation with the local parish conference of St Vincent de Paul.
