St Leo’s has an extensive cross platform computer network based on Windows Server technology with both Windows and Apple computers available for student use. The main hub of the network is based in the Technology Centre with over 100 workstations and laptops available. Around the college are Key Learning Area specific labs and mobile laptop trolleys available for use in teaching and learning areas. The infrastructure maintains a fibre optic backbone with cabled classrooms and offices, a robust wireless network and fast broadband Internet connection to fully support the use of these technologies across the college.
All teachers are issued with a school supplied laptop and are offered continuing professional development in ways to successfully integrate the use of technology into their day to day teaching strategies.
In 2008 a trial 1-1 laptop class was established. The trial is working closely with students, staff and University researchers to establish a true indication of the programs effectiveness in the classroom. The successful results from this trial has led the College to begin a 1-1 Laptop program across Year 7 and 8 in 2009.
The majority of classrooms in the college are fitted with data projectors and sound systems. In 2009 the college will be extending the mobile computing technologies with additional laptops and exploring the use of alternative technologies such as iPods and Interactive Whiteboards making the teaching and learning environment dynamic, engaging and exciting for students at St Leo’s College.
In 2008 SLCC was invited by Apple to be showcased on their website as a centre for Quality excellence in integrating ICLT into the curriculum.
