Children have an opportunity to have private music lessons with the company BayMusic. This operates after school in the Parish Hall. This provides the children with an opportunity to develop their level of competency in various musical instruments such as the piano, drums, saxophone, clarinet, violin, guitar and flute. The childrens' level of confidence and competence develop so much that they are able to sit exams and perform in public.
Sport
The school’s Physical Education program caters for a diverse range of interests and abilities. It provides opportunities for skill development and exposure to a variety of sports and competitions.
The emphasis in class lessons has been on the development of fundamental motor and gross motor skills, gymnastics, dance, athletics and swimming. In addition the students attend clinics for soccer, rugby, cricket and Aussie rules.
The school holds successful athletics and swimming carnivals. Children from Year 2 onward are able to participate in diocesan gala days for netball, soccer, basketball, cross country, athletics and swimming. Several elite athletes are chosen to represent Polding at the state level.
For our dance component the children have special instruction for the choreography for their Musical. We also participate in the Dance Fever program.
Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 students participate in a Surf Awareness program at Manly Beach.
We access Northbridge Oval on Wednesdays for our Sport’s Program.
Public Speaking
Annually we conduct a whole school public speaking program. Children from each class prepare and present a speech to an audience of parents and children.
The school participates in the Lower North Shore Cluster Public Speaking Competition. Two students are selected to participate in this event. If successful they have the opportunity to progress onto the Diocesan Competition.
Debating
Our Stage 3 students are involved in a Debating Circle with neighbouring schools in the North Shore Cluster. The students have the opportunity to develop their skills in articulating their point of view and rebutting their case.
Buddy Reading
The senior students organise “buddy reading” for the younger students so as to increase their reading skills. These sessions are run before school. This is a fantastic opportunity for both the Senior and Junior students.
Chess
Children have an opportunity to participate in the Junior Chess League Competition.
