Serving as a Disciple

Ways of Doing

Accompanying and journeying with people in their space and at their pace

Process for Engagement

We are called to live the Good News in the everyday circumstances of our lives. Progress in the life of faith is measured in love.

In each of these examples ministry was conducted in the environment of the people that it was intended for with the focus on journeying with them at their pace. This spirit of accompaniment pervaded the ministries and programs that formed part of this consultation.

In this way people are journeyed with not ministered to, this provides both higher levels of engagement and the capacity for the “church” to be in and of the world.

The lay faithful are persons who live an ordinary life in the world: they study, they work, they form relationships as friends, professionals and members of society, cultures etc…their condition is not simply an external framework, but as a reality destined to find in Jesus Christ the fullness of its meaning. (Christifideles Laici, n15)

Therefore, to respond to their vocation, the lay faithful must see their daily activities as an occasion to join themselves to God, fulfil his will, serve other people and lead them to communion with God in Christ. (Christifideles Laici, n17)

God created the world to show forth and communicate his glory. That his creatures should share in his truth, goodness and beauty – this is the glory for which God created them. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 319)
